I've been an educator for 14 years. I've worked with ELL, Aboriginal, Rural, Multigrade, and Urban, classrooms across all grades from K-12 in more than 8 communities in BC and Alberta. I believe in inquiry, and collaboration, and an ever-changing growing practice built upon reflection and a shared community vision.
My first career and passion began with obtaining a Natural Resource Technology Diploma at NVIT and this combined with working in First Nations Villages in my first teaching positions compelled me to weave diverse Indigenous perspectives within literacy instruction. Working in remote Aboriginal communities at the beginning of my teaching career allowed me to reflect upon my cultural, and personal identity and consider how ethnocentric I truly was. I began to recognize the true essence of acceptance and understand the notion that we all have different experiences that shape us. In each new experience and student I encounter, I've learned to reflect and consider what truly provides an open, accepting, safe learning environment for each individual to feel a sense of belonging and self worth in the classroom and school community. I love to foster learning through inquiry, collaboration and, skills for life-long learning for both myself and my students while wishing to always grow in my practice.
